We have learnt all about Diwali- the festival of lights. We have taken part in food tasting, making Divas and retelling the story of Rama and Sita. The children have been dressing up in the role play area in traditional dress.
Year 1 had Sophie the Dinosaur to visit. We joined in to see Sophie and learn about dinosaurs. We read some dinosaur poetry and designed our own dinosaur. We thought of words to describe our dinosaurs.
We have dressed up as our favourite colour Jelly Bean and taken part in many Jelly Bean maths activities. We have been measuring, estimating, creating patterns and weighing lots of Jelly Beans.
ZIM ZAM ZOOM- is our focus book this half term. This book is a collection of poems that we have been exploring and understanding their meaning. When reading Zim Zam Zoom we looked at the journey of the rocket and what we might see. The children created their own story maps of their journeys. 30th November we met a BEAR in the forest school!! We had clues to follow to see if we could guess what animal was hiding in the Forest school- we thought of a dinosaur, hedgehog, the Gruffalo, fox and a polar bear. We then found a BEAR! We have read the poem BEwARe and creating our own posters warning people of our chosen animals.
We have been looking at the nativity story and how Christmas is celebrated differently around the world. We have tried traditional foods from other countries and some British favourites such as Mince Pies and decorated Christmas biscuits.
We went to watch Cinderella at the Waterside Theatre. We walked from school and along the canal we spotted a Cygnet and Duckling along the way! At school we created our own puppets and retold our own versions of Cinderella.
